milton's privacy policy
milton respects ur privacy, mostly because he does not know where it is. here is everything this website collects, in plain words.
ur email (only if u give it 2 us)
if u type ur email into the wallpaper prize popup or the gift shop waitlist, it is stored in the site's database (Upstash Redis, connected through our host, Vercel), along with which list u joined and when.
it stays there until milton's creator moves the list to an email provider, which will then store it and send the emails. ur email is used only for milton emails: the wallpaper prize and news about the gift shop. it is never sold, and it is not shared with anyone except that email provider.
payments (milton never touches ur card)
tips (like "buy milton a hug") are paid on Stripe's own checkout page. this site never sees ur card details. Stripe shares the basics with milton's creator so he can fill ur order: ur name, ur email, what u bought, and any name or message u typed for a dance or shoutout. Stripe's handling of ur data is covered by Stripe's privacy policy.
names and messages u send for a dance or shoutout are shown publicly, in milton's videos and on the SHOUTOUTZ wall. that is the whole point.
the shirt shop (miltonbumford.com/shop)
the shirt shop shows shirts from milton's Shopify store. while u browse, ur browser asks Shopify for the shirts, sizes and prices, and when u add a shirt to ur bag, Shopify keeps the bag. the shop page counts its visits the same way as the rest of the site, including which sizes and buttons u tap (see "analytics" below), and keeps those numbers separate from the rest of the site's. it never records ur name, email, address or card.
the shop page also shows how many people are in the shop right now (when there are a few), made from those same counts. the 🔥 button works the same way: each tap is counted like any other tap, and other visitors see the shop's total taps and new taps float up as flames, with no names or places attached.
checkout happens on Shopify's own checkout page. Shopify collects ur name, email, shipping address and payment details there, and this site never sees ur card. milton's creator gets what he needs to fill ur order: ur name, email, shipping address and what u bought. Printful, the company that prints and ships the shirts, gets ur name and shipping address so it can send ur shirt. their handling of ur data is covered by Shopify's privacy policy and Printful's privacy policy.
analytics (counting, not tracking)
milton's website counts its own visits. it records which page u opened, how long it was open on ur screen, how far u scrolled, which buttons and links u tapped, which website or app sent u here, and rough info worked out from ur connection and browser: country, city, device type, browser, and operating system. it does not know ur name and does not use cookies to do this.
this data stays in the site's own database (Upstash Redis, through our host Vercel) and only milton's creator can see it. it is never sold or shared. there are no ad trackers on this site. no Meta Pixel. nothing follows u to other websites. ur IP address is used to work out the rough location and is not stored with any of it.
notes saved in ur own browser
a few tiny notes are saved in ur browser so the site remembers things. the random visitor and visit ids below are sent along with the visit counts described above; they don't say who u are. the rest stay in ur browser. u can delete them anytime by clearing this site's data in ur browser.
- mbum_vid (localStorage): a random id, so a repeat visit from the same browser counts as the same visitor. it is not linked to who u are.
- mbum_sid and mbum_sid_t (sessionStorage): group one visit together. they go away when u close the tab, and a new visit starts after 30 minutes away.
- mbum_popup_seen (localStorage): so the prize popup only shows up once.
- mbum_sound (localStorage): remembers whether u turned sound on or off.
- miltonbumford.com/create (no storage on ur device): this link sends u to a partner site. it counts the tap, and to count people instead of taps it feeds a one-way scramble of ur IP address and browser into a counter that can't be turned back into either. nothing about u is kept.
- mbum_arm (localStorage): which of two button wordings u see (BUY or SEE), picked at random, so milton can tell which one people like.
- mbum_hug_from (sessionStorage): remembers which hug button u tapped so the thank-you page can count it. it goes away when u close the tab.
- mc_cart (localStorage): the id of ur shirt bag at Shopify, so ur bag is still there when u come back. clear it and the bag is forgotten.
- mc_fire (localStorage): the times of ur last few 🔥 taps (kept 3 minutes), so a reload still shows them. nothing else is in it.
- mc_vid, mc_sid and mc_sid_t: the shop's own random visitor and visit ids, used exactly like mbum_vid, mbum_sid and mbum_sid_t above, so the shop is counted on its own.
ip addresses (for about a minute)
when u submit ur email, the site briefly uses ur IP address to stop bots from spamming the form. it is kept for about 1 minute and is never stored with ur email. like any host, Vercel also handles basic request info, including IP addresses, to deliver pages and keep the site running.
getting off the list
want to unsubscribe, or want ur email deleted completely? email hello@miltonbumford.com from the address u signed up with and say so. milton's creator will remove it. once milton starts sending emails, every one will also have an unsubscribe link.
questions
email hello@miltonbumford.com. a real human reads it. milton is not allowed near the inbox.
if this policy changes, the "last updated" date at the top changes too.
